EMS: Understanding the Role of Emergency Medical Services in Firefighting
Firefighters and paramedics work together to provide emergency medical care to individuals at the scene of a fire. Firefighters are trained to provide basic life support such as CPR, bleeding control, and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Paramedics, on the other hand, are trained to provide advanced life support such as administering medication and performing advanced airway management.
When an emergency call is received, firefighters and paramedics respond together in an ambulance or rescue unit. Once they arrive at the scene, they assess the patient’s condition and provide the necessary medical care. If the patient requires transportation to a hospital, the paramedics will then transport them in the ambulance.
EMS is an important aspect of firefighting as it ensures that individuals who are injured or affected by a fire receive the necessary medical care as quickly as possible. It’s important for firefighters to have knowledge and training in emergency medical procedures to ensure that they are able to provide the appropriate care in case of an emergency.
