‘Landing Zone’ Incident Coding

How do I code a request for landing zone supper (LZ) call?

A request for a landing zone (e.g. a medivac helicopter) should be coded as 462 – Aircraft Standby.

Admittedly, firefighters provide ground contact and prepare the landing zone, however the primary role of the fire department is to respond and be on standby in the case of a landing or takeoff emergency, and it should be coded as 462 – Aircraft Standby.

What if we are providing medical care as well as landing support?

If providing medical care as well as landing zone support consider 311 – Medical Assist, Assist EMS Crew, and remember the second NFIRS rule for selecting incident type – when multiple incident types apply select the lower/lowest number.
