NFIRS 5.0 Element : Acres Burned (Outside Fires only)

Definition : the estimated area of land that was burned as a result of a fire that occurred outside of a building or structure.

Purpose : This element is typically used to capture the extent of damage caused by wildfires, brush fires, and other outdoor fires. It is important to note that this element only applies to fires that occur outside of buildings or structures, and that the acres burned estimate may not be exact, as it is often difficult to accurately measure the total area affected by a fire.
Entry : Enter the total number of acres burned in the fire. If it was not a brush/grass fire, or no acres were burned, or less than one acre burned, check or mark the appropriate box.
