NFIRS 5.0 Element: ‘Confined to Origin’

Définition : The extent of fire spread in terms of how far the flame damage extended. Was the fire confined to the object of origin?
 
Purpose : In combination with other information, this element describes the magnitude or seriousness of the fire. It can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of built-in fire protection features or the effectiveness of the fire suppression force relative to the conditions faced. The confinement and extinguishment of a fire is influenced by many factors. Fire spread indicates the combined effect of these conditions. Also, the analysis of fire spread over many fires can reveal the effects of individual factors.
