NFIRS 5.0 Element: ‘Equipment Involved in Release’

Définition : The piece of equipment that either malfunctioned or, while working properly, allowed the release or threatened release of hazardous materials.

Purpose : Analysis of the equipment involved in a HazMat release is useful for improving product safety and preventive maintenance. It is just as important to know the kind of equipment that was used improperly as it is to know the kind of equipment that malfunctioned. Misuse can be the direct result of the way the equipment is designed and constructed. When involved in release, equipment information provides an important part of the causal data. Equipment involved in release can be compared to other causal data to determine if the equipment was (or was not) operating properly.
Entry : Enter the three-digit code and description that best describes the equipment involved in the release. If no equipment was involved, check or mark the None box.
