NFIRS 5.0 Element: ‘Equipment Used’
Definition : The types of safety equipment in use by the patient at time of injury.
Purpose : This element provides important information about safety devices used. The data can be used with police reports concerning collisions, tracking various trends and patterns, and determining the focus of public education campaigns.

Entry : Check or mark all applicable boxes to indicate the safety equipment that was in use. If no safety equipment was used, check or mark the None box.

Element Type | Coded Field – The coded field relating to an entry in the code table. Most coded fields allow for Plus+ One codes. For these fields the expected length of the coded entry is depicted as (National length OR Plus+ One length). Only fields with this notation in the expected length column allow for Plus+ One definitions. If the user has not provided information, an empty field should be transmitted. |
