NFIRS 5.0 Element: ‘Longitude’
Definition : Latitude and Longitude are Angular coordinates measured with respect to the center of the Earth. The value is expressed in degrees and minutes. Valid inputs for Latitude are in the range –90 to 90 (north is positive). Valid inputs for Longitude are in the range –180 to 180 (east is positive).
Purpose : This information may be of value to local authorities for contacting the owner in connection with the fire and in making a long-term analysis of wildland fires in similar areas or on property under the same ownership.

Entry : Enter the alternate location information using the specific Latitude and Longitude where the fire started or, alternatively, enter the Section, Township, Range, and Meridian.
