NFIRS 5.0 Element: ‘Property Management Ownership’
Definition : The name of the principle entity having responsibility for the maintenance or control of the property where the fire originated. It is used for the reporting of the percent of the total acres burned for each type of ownership involved.
Purpose : The number of acres burned by property ownership is of significant value to local fire departments as well as to State and Federal wildland agencies. It provides a means to determine the frequency and impact of fire on property managers, especially major holders of land, such as ranchers, lumber and paper companies, agricultural producers, and Federal and State governments. This information also can help target fire protection programs at entities having the greatest risk or loss potential.
