NFIRS 5.0 Element: ‘Special Study Code’
Special studies are typically required to capture information on emerging trends, problem areas, or a specific issue being studied. When the answer becomes known through the special study, the collection of that field is no longer required.
Responses for special studies can be defined as codes or as alphanumeric entries of numeric values or dates.
If the data will always be needed for permanent collection, a State- or department-defined permanent user field should be created and used instead of the Special Studies field.
|Element Type||Text – Alphanumeric or special characters. If the user has not provided information, an empty field should be transmitted. – Maximum length 5 characters|
